Makar Sankranti is a hindu festival celebrated in India on 14 January every year. But many people don't know why we celebrate makar sankranti. When makar sankrati came we can see flying kites in sky. Kite flying become passion for everyone during makar sankranti. Specially for children, they enjoy kites flying whole day of Makar Sankranti,

Why Makar Sankranti is Celebrated?

Natural resources like air, water, sun etc makes life possible on our earth. Makar Sankranti is dedicated to Lord Sun. Makar Sankranti is celebrated as thanksgiving to the nature. Cattle, specially bulls and oxen are worshiped because their role in ploughing farmer's fields.

Many people in North India, take a bath in holy river, the Ganga. Cities specially, Haridwar, Varanasi and Allahabad crowded with thousands of people to take a dip in the Ganga.

It is believed that if a person take a deep in holy Ganga, all the sins committed by him/her will be forgiven by the God.

Ganga  Sagar Mela celebrated on the day of Makar Sankranti in Kolkata, West Bengal. Sikh people celebrate their main festival, Lohri, before one day of Makar Sankranti.

In Tamilnadu, Makar Sankranti is celebrated as Pongal. Pogal celebrated for 4 days but Thai Pongal is most important day Pongal.
